Welcome to Spring House Medical Centre
We are a new type of GP- run medical centre, with extended opening hours and open access. The service is free to anyone eligible for NHS care.
We are open every day of the year from 8.00am to 8.00pm enabling you to be seen by a doctor or a nurse at a time convenient to you, including for routine matters. We very much hope this will mean patients take less time off work simply to see the doctor or nurse.
You do not need to register with the centre to be seen, and can remain mainly with your current practice and GP. This would be for occasional use only. However, you may register at the practice to obtain the full range of services that would typically be offered by any modern GP surgery. In this case you would need to move from your current GP.
We operate from a brand new building situated over-the-road from the QE2 hospital in Welwyn Garden City. We are on a single level, and have full disabled access, with loop induction facilities. Disabled parking is near the entrance. The car-park is of adequate size, but please note you may need to pick up a coupon from reception to be made visible through the windscreen - this allows parking only while using the clinic itself, and not the hospital!
You can walk in without an appointment and wait to be seen but, to avoid waiting, please phone or use the website to book ahead. We can then inform you as to how busy we are and any likely waiting time. Registered patients only have the facility to book an appointment in advance.
The centre will normally not have access to the medical records for unregistered patients so it is important that you answer the doctor’s questions fully. Details from your appointment will be sent to your own surgery to keep your medical records complete. The medical records of registered patients will be kept at the centre.
Spring House Medical Centre also aims to work in partnership with you to help you to maintain your own health and manage any health conditions. For example we have a 'patient self-mangement' room where you can measure your own height, weight and blood pressure. The facility has health information available. Please just 'drop-in' if you wish to use this service, no need to ring in advance.
Opening Times
We are open 8am to 8pm, seven days a week, 365 days a year!
Spring House Medical Centre is run by Ephedra Healthcare (an organization set up by the eight GP practices in the Welwyn & Hatfield area) in partnership with the East and North Hertfordshire Primary Care Trust.
